The most common problems for this hardware are:
- Noisy dialing with weird sounds
- The modem rarely connects at the first dialing attempt
- Low connection speeds
- Unstable connections
- Slow downloads
Probable Cause:
Assuming that there's no hardware malfunction, there must be a programming bug in the original drivers (e-machines or Micromodems labeled as "PCTel 56K"). These bugs can be corrected stabilizing the modem via init strings or new drivers.
